Software Products and the Internet
The Internet is a tremendous enabling technology for small businesses like Mib Software. It provides methods for advertising, marketing, and publishing/distribution all at once, and at prices which are extremely affordable! Purveyors of retail merchandise may struggle to find customers on the 'net, but to me, a software developer, the Internet already includes the majority of my market, and it is world-wide!
Developing software for generic consumption (as opposed to solving a client's defined problem) is a new direction for Mib Software. I have a solid education, background, and experience for software engineering and development. And learning how to make effective and appropriate use of the Internet is a new direction for all businesses, not just this one.
By every estimate, the uses, popularity, and technology of the Internet are going to remain in the condition (not a state!) of rapid evolution. In such an environment, it is inevitable that businesses will make mistakes before settling on what "appropriate use of the Internet" means.
